“Khafre (2520 - 2494 BCE), fourth King of the Fourth Dynasty, built the Great Sphinx and his Pyramid at Giza next to that of his father, Khufu. Khafre chose the highest spot on the Giza plateau and built his pyramid 10 m (33 feet) higher on the plateau than his father's pyramid. This gave it the illusion of being taller, enabling his father's monument to remain the largest. His pyramid complex has survived better than many others for centuries because of its innovative architectural design and engineering complexity.”
